the critical point in a situation or process beyond which an unstoppable change happens

Examples:

Scientists say we are at an environmental tipping point where inaction will have dire consequences for the planet.

We have reached a tipping point in terms of infrastructure where growth may overwhelm this town if it is not carefully managed.
